2024 Lifetime Achievement Award Recipient

The Board of Certified Safety Professionals (BCSP) is pleased to announce the 2024 recipients of its Awards of Excellence and Lifetime Achievement Award, the organization’s most prestigious honor.

This year’s Awards of Excellence recognize BCSP credential holders in the categories of Certified Safety Professional® (CSP®) and, for the first time, Certified Instructional Trainer® (CIT®). The recipients represent outstanding leadership and knowledgeable expertise. The Lifetime Achievement Award acknowledges an outstanding career of service to the profession and a lifetime of dedication to the craft.

The 2024 recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award, BCSP’s highest honor, is Joel N. Tietjens, CSP, CSHM, FASSP, President of Houston-based T-JENS & T-JENS, INC., and a member of the American Society of Safety Professionals (ASSP) Region III Hall of Fame. An ASSP faculty member for 29 years, he is also a professional speaker, seminar leader, and occupational safety and health management consultant.

This year’s Awards of Excellence recipients are:

CSP Award of Excellence: Tim Page-Bottorff, MS, CSP, CIT

CIT Award of Excellence: Veera Kumar Mohan, Ph.D., M.Eng., M.Sc., CEng, CSP, CIT, SMS, CRSP, CMIOSH, NEBOSH I Dip, MSOE

Page-Bottorff, a former U.S. Marine, is a decorated safety professional, speaker, and author. He is a past recipient of the ASSP’s Society-Wide Safety Professional of the Year award and the National Safety Council’s (NSC) Distinguished Service to Safety award.

Mohan has earned distinction in the safety profession and the academic community over a 23-year career. Having achieved a doctorate degree, two master’s degrees, and nearly a dozen professional certifications, he also inspires others through devoted mentorship.

“BCSP Awards of Excellence recognize not only expertise in the field but also a lasting impact on the profession,” said BCSP CEO Christy Uden, CAE, IOM. “The contributions of these award recipients transcend the industries in which they work and the jobs they do each day. They have not only found success in their individual roles but have influenced others to do the same.”

BCSP is proud of the contributions these credential holders have made to the profession and delighted to highlight their accomplishments and join with colleagues in sharing appreciation for excellence in safety professionalism.

The awards ceremony will be presented during BCSP’s Global Learning Summit, May 7 at 5 p.m. ET. It will also air May 30 at 11 a.m. ET via YouTube Premiere. You can sign up to receive an invitation for the YouTube Premiere showing.
