Your BCSP certification exam is coming up, and you’ve done all your studying—but now you’re not sure what to expect from the actual exam-taking process. This guide explains what to expect during the exam process and the security measures in place to protect the integrity of BCSP certifications.

Before exam day, it’s helpful to understand BCSP’s exam security policies: what is expected, what is permitted, and what is not. This article is the first in a three-part series on exam security. Here, you’ll learn what to expect on exam day and how BCSP and our exam delivery partner, Pearson, protects exam integrity. Future articles will cover prohibited behaviors during testing and the consequences of sharing or receiving exam content.
What to Expect on Exam Day
Arrive early to ensure sufficient time for check-in and security procedures. Your testing experience will generally follow these steps:
- Check in and present identification.
- Store personal items.
- Complete required security screening(s).
- Receive testing instructions.
- Begin your exam under live proctor supervision.
How BCSP Protects Exam Integrity
BCSP exams are delivered at Pearson test centers located globally, unless an organization has opted into our Onsite Exam Delivery (OED) option. Every BCSP exam is monitored by live proctors.
Before the exam:
- Candidate agreements: Code of Ethics, Candidate Examination Security and Confidentiality Agreement. These agreements are completed at the testing center and require candidates to behave ethically, protect confidential exam content, refrain from sharing exam information, and attest that they have not accessed unauthorized exam materials.
- Identity verification: Candidates must provide identification before sitting for their exam. This identification must be government issued, unexpired, and show both a photograph and signature.
- Secure entrance process: After presenting their identification, candidates will provide a digital signature, complete a palm vein scan to verify identity, and have their photo taken. Candidates will complete security screening, which may include infrared and metal-detection wanding.
During the exam:
- Live proctors: Proctors will be in the room monitoring test takers for the duration of the exam.
- Secure testing centers: Exams are administered in controlled testing environments designed to minimize distractions and support exam integrity.
- Personal item restrictions: Phones, smart glasses, headphones or earbuds are not allowed. Notes and calculators are also not permitted; a calculator will be provided on-screen for each candidate during their exam. Lockable storage is available in Pearson testing centers for candidates to store their items while testing.
After the exam:
- Post-exam statistical analysis and data forensics are conducted to identify irregularities or potential misconduct.
These measures help ensure that every credential holder has earned their certification through demonstrated competence.
