Twenty More College Programs Offer Safety Students a Greater Path to the Profession

Twenty More College Programs Offer Safety Students a Greater Path to the Profession

Twenty More College Programs Offer Safety Students a Greater Path to the ProfessionAt the beginning of the 2017-18 academic year, twenty more college programs offer the Graduate Safety Practitioner® (GSP®) as Qualified Academic Programs (QAPs) than did at the beginning of the 2016-17 year.

Students who graduate from QAPs are eligible for the GSP designation, which provides additional recognition of their safety, health, and environmental (SH&E) knowledge and shows their dedication to the safety profession as someone pursuing Certified Safety Professional® (CSP®).

Those attending QAPs have the additional benefit of being eligible for BCSP-sponsored scholarships. In 2016, eighteen students from these programs received $5,000 scholarships supporting their studies.

Current QAPs can be found on the QAP List or highlighted in the the BCSP Academic Database.

This year, BCSP is also offering QAPs support in achieving or maintaining accreditation through the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) or Aviation Accreditation Board International (AABI).

“Accreditation is an important indicator of quality” says Dr. Treasa Turnbeaugh, CSP, ASP, CET, CAE, CEO of BCSP. “ABET and AABI are the top accrediting bodies in the engineering and aviation fields, and many GSP QAPs are accredited by these organizations. We believe that more QAPs could hold accreditation and are committed to support them in attaining it as part of our mission.”

More information about QAP benefits can be found on the QAP webpage.
