Students in safety, health, and environmental (SH&E) academic programs are among those now returning to university campuses, seeking new knowledge and how they can apply what they have learned.
The beginning of the academic year is a time of renewed responsibilities and exciting opportunities. “Things are always changing – research evolves, regulations change, work environments transform,” Dr. Tracey Cekada, CSP, CHSP, Associate Professor at Indiana University of Pennsylvania’s (IUP) Safety Sciences Department, shared at the start of the 2015-16 academic year. “Every day is different and new experiences occur constantly.”
“Take every opportunity,” said Dr. Cekada. “Join professional organizations, seek out mentors, attend conferences, continue your education by attending webinars, training sessions, graduate school, and gaining certifications. Probably most important is to always try to learn something new.”
BCSP shares some of what’s new in SH&E knowledge, scholarships, tools for student groups, and other useful information in the Collegiate eNewsletter, which you can subscribe to online. The next issue will be released in early September.
We appreciate SH&E students, who are a constant source of insight and inspiration. Have a great year!
