National Safety Stand-Down to Raise Awareness for Fall Hazards

April 29, 2019

OSHA's National Safety Stand-Down UnderwayBCSP has partnered with the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) in support of the sixth annual National Safety Stand-Down to prevent falls in construction.

Currently underway and running through May 10, the National Safety Stand-Down is a country-wide event dedicated to raising awareness towards eliminating the number one cause of death for construction employees: falls.

According to OSHA, in 2017 366 of the 971 recorded construction fatalities were caused by falls from elevated positions. Falls are preventable.

The construction industry is growing rapidly, adding more than 50,000 jobs in January 2019 alone. More employees mean a greater potential for injury and the National Safety Stand-Down encourages employers to take a break to focus on safety concerns surrounding falls from elevation.

The National Safety Stand-Down is for anyone who wants to prevent workplace hazards and there are regional events you can participate in. You can also share your own story on social media using #StandDown4Safety.
