Make the Business Case for Safety at the 2024 Global Learning Summit

Let's Do the Job Right

December 7, 2023

“Safety, health, and environmental (SH&E) practice is not static – we are continually finding new root causes to major challenges in our profession and innovating methods to overcome those challenges,” says Matt Law, DrPH, CSP, REHS, Manager, Customer Safety Strategy at W.W. Grainger, Inc.

Dr. Law will share some of the key methods he uses to build high-performing safety programs in his BCSP Global Learning Summit (GLS) session, Selling Safety Part II.

Building off the soft skills for guiding influential safety-related conversations from Selling Safety Part I, the skills covered in Part II include gathering the elements needed to build an effective business case for safety solutions. “This includes identifying hazards, qualifying and prioritizing opportunities for improvement, evaluating return-on-investment, and how to obtain the resources and information needed to build an effective proposal,” explains Dr. Law. “We also briefly discuss how to structure the proposal, to whom to deliver it, methods for delivery, and what to do if the business case fails.”

Dr. Law expresses the importance of building this knowledge for keeping people safe. “SH&E professionals must seek development to put new evidence-based practices to work and effectively protect people, property, and the environment.” As for why he will be presenting at the 2024 GLS, he explains: “The GLS is affordable, accessible, and an amazing opportunity to hear from some of the smartest people in the profession about things that can actually make a difference in the work we do.”

Selling Safety Part II will be presented at the BCSP GLS, May 7-9, 2024.
