Qualified Academic Program Graduates Earn GSP Designation
Board of Certified Safety Professionals May 10, 2019 12:00:00 AM

The Environmental Safety and Occupational Health (ESOH) department at the University of Findlay recognized students (pictured) who earned BCSP’s Graduate Safety Practitioner® (GSP®) designation after graduation last spring.
“The GSP indicates and recognizes the students’ first step in the safety profession. It also recognizes that they have made a decision to be a lifelong learner and will continuously assist in the improvement and advancement of the safety profession,” commented Assistant Professor of ESOH at the University of Findlay Donald Elswick, CIH, CSP, CET, CHMM. “These GSPs are servant leaders.”
BCSP’s Examination Director Dave West, CSP, ASP, PE, CHMM recently spoke at Southeastern Louisiana University’s Occupational, Safety, Health, and Environment (OSH&E) graduation ceremony where he addressed the graduates with a message about the benefits of obtaining the GSP and presented them with a GSP graduation folder containing information on obtaining the designation.
“When graduates of SLU’s OSH&E program obtain their GSP designation, it is a significant accomplishment. Administratively, it means they will have earned a waiver from taking the Associate Safety Professional (ASP) exam, but symbolically, it means they will have completed the first major leg of their journey toward earning BCSP’s Certified Safety Professional (CSP) credential, the gold standard for professional certification in safety, health, and environment,” said West.
BCSP is proud of all those who hold the GSP. These students are at the beginning stages of entering the workforce and creating a safer world for all of us. Good luck to all soon-to-be graduates!
The GSP is a designation available to safety degree graduates from degree programs which meet BCSP Qualified Academic Program (QAP) standards. The GSP program is an alternate path to the Certified Safety Professional (CSP) and does not replace other paths. If you would like more information about the GSP, you can visit the GSP webpage.
