Introduce Students to an Exciting and Rewarding Career in Safety

Academic Database Useful Tool for High School Students

August 21, 2018

This is a stressful time of year for many entering their final year of high school. There’s that one big question that’s on everyone’s minds—What exactly do I want to do next year?

Most applications are sent between October and January, deadlines are looming at that time, standardized testing appointments need to be scheduled, you may need a personal essay, recommendations, etc; it can all be a bit overwhelming.

The Board of Certified Safety Professionals wants to help alleviate some of those nervous feelings by introducing you to our Academic Database. The Academic Database is an online tool designed to help future and current college students locate academic programs in the safety, health, and environmental (SH&E) fields. The database includes options to narrow search results by Field/Major, Degree Type, and by US State. It’s a great tool if you’re thinking about starting a career path in safety!

There are several benefits to obtaining a degree in safety. It’s a financially secure road with an above-average median income of $65,400 annually. Obtaining a certification from BCSP can improve income totals as well with certified safety practitioners earning on average $70,000 annually in their first five (5) years of practice and $98,000 per year overall.

If you would like more information about the SH&E field, please visit our Career Paths in Safety webpage, where you can find brochures, posters, and a video on joining this fulfilling profession.

Have a great school year!
