Former BCSP Board President, John Hodges, passed away at his home on October 4, 2018. The BCSP family's thoughts and prayers are with John and his family during this time.
John Hodges served as the President of the BCSP Board in 2016. He had 45 years of construction industry experience with a background that included all phases of safety management, accident cost control, loss prevention, safety education, and implementation of all company, federal, and state safety regulations. Hodges had extensive experience applying safety practice internationally, advocating, training, or leading in nearly 20 different countries around the world. He was a Professional Member of the American Society of Safety Professionals (ASSP). He achieved the OHST in 1986 and became a CSP in 1994.
BCSP has set up a scholarship through the ASSP Foundation to honor his contributions to the safety profession. The John E. Hodges "Thumbs Up" Award will be presented to an ABET bachelor's student specializing in construction safety. It will be awarded at the ASSP Professional Development Conference 2019.
In the opening message of an eNewsletter penned by John during his time as BCSP President, he asked us all to stay engaged, that the future is made by those who make a difference today. We'll keep fighting every day to make a difference in everyone's lives by making the world a safer place, John.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the John E. Hodges "Thumbs up" Scholarship fund.
