BCSP is pleased to partner with and join the more than 3,000 companies, partners, and trainers already involved in supporting the International Social Security Association’s (ISSA) Vision Zero campaign.
The Vision Zero campaign was originally launched in 2017 following the XXI World Congress on Safety and Health at Work in Singapore. Today, with over 4,007 supporters from 141 countries, it’s a global movement that is centered around the belief that all accidents, diseases, and harm at work are preventable. The core values of Vision Zero are safety, health, and well-being, with the mission being to institute those values at all levels of work.
Those core values strongly adhere to BCSP’s vision of creating a safer world through safety, health, and environmental certification. On joining Vision Zero, BCSP’s Strategic and Global Relations Director Erica Poff, CAE, IOM said, “We are tremendously excited to be a partner to such a far-reaching, global safety campaign. We hope that by joining so many other influential companies and organizations, and embracing Vision Zero’s 7 Golden Rules, we can create a strong prevention culture.”
The 7 Golden Rules of the campaign are: take leadership; identify hazards; define targets; ensure a safe and healthy system; ensure safety and health in machines, equipment, and workplaces; improve qualifications; invest in people.
Ambassadors of Vision Zero include: Michael López-Alegria, Former Commander of the International Space Station; Pirkko Mattila, Minister of Social Affairs and Health, Finland; Marie Josée Ta Lou, African champion of 100 and 200 meter sprints.
The ISSA is the world’s leading international organization for social security institutions, government departments, and agencies. It was founded in 1927 under the guidance of the International Labour Organization (ILO).
The ILO estimates that 2.78 million workers die every year from work-related injuries and diseases. Additionally, 160 million more suffer from work-related diseases and 313 million from non-fatal injuries each year.
