BCSP Recognizes CP-12 Certificate as Path to CSP

Published on Tuesday, June 19, 2018

The Board of Certified Safety Professionals (BCSP) now recognizes the United States Army Combat Readiness Center’s (USACRC) Professional Certificate in Safety and Occupational Health (CP-12 Certificate) as meeting the credential eligibility requirement for the Certified Safety Professional® (CSP®). A Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed Monday, June 18, 2018, established the CP-12 as an approved credential for the CSP.

“With the signing of this memorandum, we recognize the knowledge, skills, and commitment to safety demonstrated by those holding the CP-12 Certificate,” said BCSP CEO Dr. Treasa Turnbeaugh, CSP, ASP, CET, IOM, CAE.

The CP-12 Certificate is ANSI accredited to ISO 17011 and is awarded to military civilians and federal employees serving in safety and occupational health job roles, and who have completed course training or its equivalency. The CP-12 Certificate coursework covers 33 SH&E competencies and skills assessments and was determined to substantially match the ASP9 Blueprint.

Safety professionals who hold the CP-12 Certificate and who meet the CSP certification’s education and experience requirements may now apply for the CSP. Likewise, a person who holds the CSP certification and who meets the eligibility criteria for the CP-12 Certificate will not have to complete CP-12 courses but must fulfill all other requirements for obtaining the CP-12 Certificate.

“BCSP certifications and the CP-12 serve us well by advancing the careers of dedicated safety professionals, ensuring the safety of our colleagues and the communities they protect,” said CP-12 Functional Chief Representative Dr. Brenda Miller.

BCSP safety certifications are recognized and highly regarded by every branch of the US military. The certifications have been mapped to 764 military occupations across the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines Corps, and Civil Services. Each branch's Credentialing Opportunities On-Line (COOL) program includes the full set of BCSP certifications, all offering vouchers for payment of fees related to achieving or maintaining credentials, issued as funding is available.

More information on the agreement may be read in the BCSP-USACRC Memorandum of Understanding.
