BCSP Board Member Rixio Medina is on the last legs of a trip to Delhi, India providing fire, safety and security consulting services for HPCL-Mittal Energy Limited (HMEL).

HMEL is building and preparing to commission and operate a state of the art, energy efficient and environment friendly Greenfield oil refinery of about 180 thousand barrels per day capacity  in Bathinda, Punjab, called Guru Gobind Singh Refinery to produce petroleum products complying with Euro IV emission norms. The project includes a Captive Power Plant for 165 MW, a 63 miles long cross-country crude oil pipeline, a Single Point Mooring (SPM) buoy capable of handling very large crude carriers, a crude oil terminal with large 14 atmospheric tanks located about 10 miles from the seashore, a series of valve and pumping stations and a township, . The project is expected to be completed in 2011.

Even on a business trip, Medina and his wife have enjoyed many aspects of India including visiting the India Golden Triangle – Agra, Taj Mahal and Jaipur, playing Polo on elephants and taking a tour by elephant.

“This is an incredible professional and personal opportunity for me to work in such a challenging project and to know about India, its people and culture,” said Medina. “They want and need my help on various issues associated with refinery fire protection, safety and security design and operations.

Operation Sleigh Ride

Sean McDevitt - Monday, December 14, 2009
The BCSP staff had found seats in the library meeting room. An impromptu general staff meeting had been called and people were buzzing about the lack of an agenda.

“We have lured you here under false pretense.”

Thus, the first Operation Sleigh Ride had begun. A few hours before the BCSP holiday party and luncheon on Friday December 4, teams of employees brought holiday cheer to those less fortunate – all the while wearing reindeer antlers with tiny bells.

Local institutions who help the needy and the elderly including the Crisis Nursery, Eastern Illinois Food Bank, Cunningham Children’s Home, The Arbrours, Clark/Lindsay and Windsor of Savoy were recipients of donations and a cappella renditions of Christmas favorites by the BCSP teams. As the groups finally made their way back to the main office a final task awaited them, a holiday puzzle.

After completion of Operation Sleigh Ride, the teams met their co-workers at Kennedy’s for the holiday luncheon.

“The goal of Operation Sleigh Ride was to create team building-related fun and to give back to the community,” said Linda Charles, Executive Assistant and Holiday Party Committee member. “It ended up being very successful. The next day we heard from the organizations we approached and they were appreciative and thankful we had thought of them during the holiday season.”
