BCSP Foundation Hosts First Biennial Research and Innovation Summit

August 6, 2019

BCSP Foundation Hosts First Biennial Research and Innovation SummitThe BCSP Foundation brought together safety leaders from around the world for its first Biennial Research and Innovation Summit, held at the JW Marriot Conference Center in Indianapolis, Indiana on August 6 and 7, 2019.

The summit included panels focused on the latest safety, health, and environmental (SH&E) research as well as the practical application of that knowledge to meet industries’ needs in the protection of people, property, and the environment. Safety professionals, educators, researchers, and students in attendance collaborated as part of breakout sessions and several roundtable events to achieve this goal.
Focused on innovation, the first day of the summit began with an executive panel regarding research’s impact on the future of safety, immediately followed by a research roundtable. Attendees followed either General Safety or Construction Safety tracks, relevant for safety professionals of various expertise. The ideas and energy generated by the summit were directed toward translation into practice at its closing session on small grants and strategic investment.
“By bringing research and innovation together, we get to the point of application, where knowledge can be turned into improvements in occupational safety,” says Dr. Treasa Turnbeaugh, CSP, ASP, CET, CAE, BCSP’s Chief Executive Officer. “Support for research and innovation is an investment, and summit attendees, presenters, and partner organizations are making that investment for the strategic advancement of SH&E practice.”
The summit has the support of important partner organizations like the American Society of Safety Professionals (ASSP), The Campbell Institute, the Center for Construction Research and Training (CPWR), National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH), and the National Safety Council (NSC).
