BCSP and ISPON Sign Memorandum

Published on Tuesday, January 10, 2017

The Board of Certified Safety Professionals (BCSP) and the Institute of Safety Professionals of Nigeria (ISPON) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) that will better build professional safety practice internationally.

The MOU between BCSP and ISPON allows for persons who hold the status of Member in the Institute of Safety Professionals of Nigeria (MISPN) and meet all eligibility requirements for the Certified Safety Professional (CSP) to waive the Associate Safety Professional (ASP) examination so that they may sit directly for the CSP certification’s examination.

A safety professional holding the CSP and meeting the requirements of the MISPN will likewise be allowed to bypass certain requirements—the ISPON Advanced HSE course and membership examination—to obtain the MISPN.

“This agreement between BCSP and ISPON will support the development of safety internationally,” says Dr. Treasa Turnbeaugh, CSP, ASP, CET, CEO of BCSP. “The combination of the internationally accredited CSP with MISPN status provides safety practitioners in Nigeria with certification and association, important pillars of professionalism.”

"This MOU will give more exposure and recognition to our safety professionals anywhere they go around the world, which expands their opportunities of being global players in occupational health and safety,” says Dr. Nnamdi Ilodiuba, FISPN, FNIIS, CPP, PCI, PSP, CSC, CPO, National President of ISPON. “With this MOU, achieving safety certification in USA and other countries is easier using MISPN as a pathway."

The BCSP-ISPON MOU is in effect now and can be read in full here.
