BCSP and ITC-ILO Sign Memorandum, Further Advancing Safety Competency Internationally

Published on Tuesday, September 12, 2017

The Board of Certified Safety Professionals (BCSP) and the International Training Centre of the International Labour Organization (ITC-ILO) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) that will encourage study of safety, health, and environmental (SH&E) practice and provide greater access to internationally recognized safety certification.

As the ILO aims to secure protection for all workers through international labor standards, and BCSP provides safety certifications as a means to ensure competent safety practice, the MOU establishes a new pathway for safety professionals to demonstrate dedication to the protection of people, property, and the environment.

Safety professionals who earn the Master in Occupational Safety and Health, established by the ITC-ILO in partnership with the University of Turin, Italy, the International Labour Office, and the International Commission on Occupational Health (ICOH), now meet the credential requirement for the Certified Safety Professional (CSP) safety certification. Upon meeting all CSP eligibility requirements, applicants will not be required to sit for the Associate Safety Professional (ASP) examination, but may sit directly for the CSP examination.

“The missions of BCSP and the ITC-ILO complement each other,” says BCSP's Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Treasa Turnbeaugh, CSP, ASP, CET, CAE. “The development of safety professionals and successful efforts to strengthen workplace safety are interconnected. I look forward to the results of this memorandum.”
