2018 Lifetime Achievement Award Recipient

The Board of Certified Safety Professionals (BCSP) is proud to announce the 2018 recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award

2018 Lifetime Achievement Award RecipientLawrence Oldendorf, P.E., CSP (Retired) is the President of Fire & Safety Engineering Services, based in Burbank, Illinois. He has over 60 years of experience as a safety, health, and environmental professional with an emphasis in fire safety and control of hazardous materials. Prior to leading Fire & Safety Engineering Services, Oldendorf worked for Integrated Project Management, was a consultant with Kopp & Associates, and dedicated 30 years to ensuring people’s safety in the employ of the U.S. Atomic Energy Commission and the Department of Energy (DOE).

Graduating with a Bachelor’s Degree in Fire Protection and Safety Engineering from the Illinois Institute of Technology, Oldendorf has authored over 30 published technical papers; is an instructor on various safety & fire protection engineering subjects for the American Society of Safety Engineers (ASSE), OSHA Institute, National Safety Council (NSC), National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), Northern Illinois University (NIU) and DOE; and acted as a member of standard committees for the American Nuclear Society (ANS), American National Standards Institute (ANSI), ASSE, NSC, and DOE.

For his service to the profession, Oldendorf has many awards, including the National Society of Professional Engineers – Engineer of the Year for DOE (1982), ASSE Region V/Chicago Chapter Safety Professional of the Year (1985), Chicago Federal Executive Board Employee of the Year for DOE (1986), ASSE Culbertson Outstanding Service (1992), ASSE Foundation Distinguished Service Award (2008), and Thomas Bresnahan Standards Excellence Award (2012).

Oldendorf is a Registered Professional Engineer (P.E.) in California, and earned his Certified Safety Professional (CSP) in 1970.
